Meeting Construction

At a constructing excellence networking event earlier this year, discussions took place with Martin Payne of Bridgwater and Somerset College about ways in which links could be strengthened and relationships forged between local colleges and the construction industry regionally.

As well as offering a number of employment based development opportunities, Beard has links with a wide range of schools, colleges and universities but has officially adopted Dorcan Academy in Swindon through the Adopt a School Campaign. Beard run 4 year office based and trade traineeships; the focus is on the job learning supplemented by NVQ level 4 qualification in construction and the build environment or level 3 NVQ in a trade; as well as supporting ongoing development to degree level and beyond.

St Ives - PBWC

Tom Carpenter, who appeared on the BBC’s ‘The Voice’ in 2015 helped to raise funds for St Ives School students taking part in a series of events as part of the ‘Adopt a School’ campaign. Tom’s concert and school visit were an ingenious idea to associate the industry with something more contemporary and therefore hopefully attract young people to enquire about what construction can offer.

Wates were delighted to be invited to attend St Peters School Autumn Careers Fair in early November 2016. It was the first event to be held in their newly constructed B Block which Wates Construction successfully handed over in the previous month and as such the first opportunity for parents to see this brand new facility.
